From my first email with Debbie, I was so amped on this couple's story and was honored to play the role of sharing their love story with the world. Their story is one of redemption and great love from our good Father. The Lord stirred Eddie's heart to become a man worthy of a beautiful woman's heart the night he met Debbie at a Bible study. I could hardly contain the floodgate of tears behind my camera on their wedding day knowing just a tiny glimpse of the redemption in their relationship. You can read more about how they met and fell in love on my post about their Laguna Canyon Engagement Session. The couple said that being engaged and planning a wedding was a great crash course in training for their marriage. The beautiful bride, Debbie, says,
"Humble just like us" was how they described her wedding vision to me months ago, and God certainly blessed their humble hearts by making His love and glory known to them. The wedding ceremony was emotional and humbling. Eddie gifted his bride his Celebrate Recovery chips as a symbol of his absolute devotion to following God to be the best man he can be to server her as her husband. The couple took part in humbling themselves to wash each other's feet, a symbol of love, humility, and a servant's heart. When I see a bride sit on her knees in her beautiful white wedding gown washing her husband's feet with pure joy and admiration, I see the humility of Jesus. The couple chose to worship God together with their family and friends in song after partaking in communion. It was a glorious surprise on a gorgeous Californian summer day that rain fell from the sky onto the ceremony when the Holy Spirit was welcomed. Hymns erupted from the forest from a group of patrons as the couple was pronounced husband and wife, a beautiful moment to witness. The couple describes their wedding day,
The rest of the world sort of fell away after our first look, and it felt like our Abba father was there with us watching and smiling in approval. Sure, it wasn't perfect, and like most weddings we had to be flexible and sort of go with the flow, but we thought it was amazing! We were truly blessed to have this ceremony and get to share it with so many of our family, friends, and loved ones. Now that it's all over, what we remembered most wasn't the things that went "right" or "wrong", it was the light sprinkle of rain drops that fell down during the worship song when we welcomed the presence of the Holy Spirit, and the unplanned hallelujah chorus from the group of distant patrons of the Nature Center who blessed us with their praises to the same God in heaven who's presence was so thick in the Amphitheater that day.
Congratulations, newlyweds! It was an honor getting to know you and documenting your love story!
"This is a day the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in it." - Psalm 118:24
Wedding Planning Advice From The Couple:
The best advice we can give is to take some time after the engagement to solidify what the two of you want as a couple for your wedding. Before the questions from loved ones come flooding in, really set aside some special quality time to agree on want you both want your wedding to be like. What's the bottom line? It is an empowering thing as a couple preparing for a life together to have full confidence about what you know that you both want. For us it was a wedding ceremony that invited and honored God. After that, individually pick the one "must have" that is of top importance to each of you. For me it was beautiful wedding pictures. For Eddie it was a nice reception or gathering after the wedding. After you have yourselves grounded in those things, be flexible with the rest. Lean into those special family members and friends who are wanting to help you with your vision. They will keep you sane. And don't give into the lie that you can't focus on anything but wedding planning until it's all over with. Your brain will just turn to mush before the wedding day if you do that. In the end, the wedding is a one day affair, and all the DIY projects will get tossed out within hours, so don't commit to late nights doing it alone. Plan some weekend get togethers and have fun making memories folding napkins and cutting ribbons. Leave yourself some breathing room. You're going to need it!
